Day 1: We travel to Devon arriving at our stylish hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2: This morning there will be free time at leisure in Barnstaple. Located on the River Taw, the ancient town preserves its medieval character alongside modern culture and great shopping. We have time to enjoy its points of interest, including the historic Pannier Market with Its wide range of stalls offering everything from local produce, flowers and crafts, to fashion, antiques and freshly baked treats. After time for lunch in one of the cosy bars or cafés we make our way to Knightshayes, a must visit destination for garden enthusiasts, history lovers and nature explorers alike. There will be time to meander through its vibrant post-war gardens, miles of 19th century parkland and the extraordinary mansion with its grand Gothic Revival architecture and opulent interiors.
Day 3: This morning, we spend time at leisure in the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, a picturesque coastal destination with stunning natural beauty and Victorian charm. The villages are connected by the impressive Lynton and Lynmouth cliff railway. Offering breathtaking coastal views, the railway is the highest and steepest totally water powered railway in the world and you may wish to travel the 500ft up and down on this unique Victorian water powered funicular. There will be time to explore the pretty villages with their relaxed way of life, quaint cafes and independent shops selling gifts, arts and crafts. In the afternoon, we visit Ilfracombe a well-known tourist destination blending dramatic scenery, award winning beaches and a vibrant arts scene. There will be free time to relax on the seafront, explore the attractions or take in the sights at the delightful natural harbour.
Day 4: Our excursion today takes us to the enchanting RHS Garden Rosemoor. Nestled in the Torridge Valley, in the heart of North Devon between Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks, RHS Rosemoor is a 65-acre paradise blending formal and informal plantings to magical effect. A feast for the senses the ever-changing beauty of Rosemoor’s ‘garden rooms’ are designed to showcase seasonal highlights. Our visit includes a 1-hour guided tour and there will be free time for independent exploration from the fiery spectacle of bold reds and oranges in the Hot Garden, the calming sanctuary of blues and soft pastels in the Cool Garden as well as enchanting Woodland Walks and the Queen Mother’s Rose Garden. In the afternoon, we spend time at leisure in the traffic-free lanes of the historic harbour town of Bideford. Explore the quirky little shops, the riverside quay and the historic indoor market
Day 5: This morning we say goodbye to beautiful North Devon and begin our journey home.
