Day 1: We arrive at the delightful Mercure Cardiff North hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2: This morning we make the short journey to Caerphilly, for a visit to the largest castle in Wales and one of the greatest medieval castles in Europe. Renowned for its leaning tower, which leans more that the Leaning Tower of Pisa, explore this 13th century sleeping giant with a maze to negotiate, a dragons den and the Great Hall to discover. After our visit there will be free time at leisure in the town, famous for its delicious cheese. This afternoon we visit St Fagans National Museum of History, with over 50 historic buildings from all over Wales. The open-air museum stands in the magnificent grounds of St Fagans Castle and takes us on a captivating journey through the history of Wales from Celtic times to present day.
Day 3: Today begins with a visit to the Royal Mint Visitor Centre, for a unique insight into Britain’s oldest manufacturing organisation. Embark on a fascinating escorted tour of the production process from blank to bank and learn about the people and events behind the coins in your pockets. Static and interactive exhibits, bring to life the Mint's heritage and history with the onsite shop offering a great range of collectable items and merchandise. This afternoon, we enjoy a guided tour of the attractive city centre of Cardiff, as well as beautiful Cardiff Bay, a vibrant waterfront destination, with a variety of attractions on the shore of a stunning freshwater lake.
Day 4: We take a scenic journey through Brecon Beacons National Park this morning. Travel through the foothills of this sublime mountain range, with its breathtaking tranquil views, before arriving at Penderyn Distillery Visitor Centre. During our visit we learn about whisky making in Wales and what makes their award-winning Single Malt Welsh Whisky so unique. At the end of the tour enjoy a tasting of the delicious spirt. This afternoon we visit Big Pit Mining Museum. Discover Wales’ rich mining heritage in this award-winning interactive museum and learn about the region's heritage. Go 300 feet underground with a miner and discover what life was like for the thousands of men who worked on the coalface. There is also a virtual tour above ground, providing a moving and entertaining illustration of the lives of miners at work and home.
Day 5: After breakfast this morning we begin our journey home.
